Should I reset my amiibo in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is right around the corner, and you probably have one question in particular in mind: whether or not you should reset your favorite amiibo. When transferring data from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, most of your amiibo’s attributes are discarded. Its level, custom moves, stat points, and bonus effects don’t make the cut, leaving its training as its only keepsake. Even then, not all of its training will be transferred, just “a portion” of it, according to the game itself.

The answer to your question, then, is that you should probably reset your amiibo. It’s a shame, but may be worth the trouble in the end. Unlike in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS, amiibo in Ultimate actively leave the stage in an attempt to gimp opponents and will taunt at Level 50. Fighters transferred from the previous title may have trouble picking up on these traits (or may not pick up on them at all). Depending on your own training philosophy and what kind of character you want to raise, it may be a good idea to reset the amiibo.

Once there, you can tell us about your amiibo and we can help you decide whether or not to retain its training in Smash Ultimate. It’s certainly a tough decision – especially since transferred data can’t be used in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS – so we’re happy to help!
